What is Dasein? / About me
"Dasein" is a philosophical term translated as "being there", or more literally "existence." It's specifically used in the context of our existence as it's lived — shaped by our relationship with culture, other people, and even ourselves, all while we're aware that we're living it.
I use dasein as a way of encapsulating this uniquely human experience through grief, bliss, and the moments where our perceptions of reality begin to fracture. Through my works I reflect on my own existence that offers few guarantees. It won't always be pleasant and full of joy, it won't always be overwhelming and full of suffering. But it will always be beautiful, and always beyond clear understanding.

My name is Aren Harper. I'm an aspiring novelist and recent graduate from Arizona State University, where I've earned a B.A. in English Literature. I enjoy weaving science fiction and fantasy with contemporary and philosophical issues. When not writing or philosophizing, I can be found at my local game store, worldbuilding rather than writing, or finding a mosh pit I can throw myself into.
